Crime Analysis and Crime Mapping
Crime analysis is an important process whether conducting a
security assessment, testifying as an expert witness, or simply conducting due
diligence as a business owner. Obtaining this information has varying
degrees of difficulty depending on the manner in which local law enforcement
maintains the information. If crime data is available and can
be formatted into an Excel spreadsheet, there is a easy, quick and free solution
on the web to map the various locations:
www.batchgeocode.com.
The
fully interactive map (click link below) below was
created through the Batchgeocode website. This
map shows only two crime types, murder and rape, as
an example. The map will calculate the
distance from the first address listed on the
spreadsheet to all other addresses listed.
This is helpful if trying to determine a radius of
crime from a specific location. There will
also be a list of the crimes under the map that can
be clicked on to show the location of that specific
incident. If your map has an excess of 35
crimes, the list at the bottom will not appear.
The list only displays in the web page mode.

These maps create an excellent
court exhibit for visual presentation and can be shown "live" through any
internet connection. We would be interested in hearing from other users if
other adaptations have been developed using the same web site. Google Maps
has similar mapping capabilities but there is some programming required.
