School and Campus Security
From Pre-K to Colleges and Universities
We can assist any school governing
body to develop a more focused security assessment of buildings, facilities,
and other areas to determine security gaps. We recognize the strength of
local Security Departments, Campus Public Safety, On and Off Campus Police Agencies, and Emergency Responders and
therefore want to work closely with these agencies. We recognize too,
that an outside consultant can make a tremendous difference in focus,
prioritization, and follow up. We are experts in the development of
collaborative programs such as these.
In a Nationwide study conducted by
the
Center for Disease Control (2004) of
high school students 17% reported carrying a weapon (e.g., gun, knife, or
club) on one or more of the 30 days preceding the survey.

The actual or attempted abduction
of school children is epidemic. How are you positioned with your
access and visitor control? What awareness programs do you have in
place? Are you prepared to react? See the depth of the problem
of the abduction of students.

As a School Administrator you are asking yourself:
What security measures should we be considering to protect our
students, staff, and visitors? How do we implement a campus security and
safety program that integrates awareness, detection, interdiction, and response?
When do we lock down? How do we notify everyone? When should we
notify? It is an alert or an actual incident? Are the statistics
for documenting crime on campus (The
Cleary Act) current? To review criminal activity for college and
university campuses nation-wide visit
The Campus
Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool Website. We can assist with
all of these critical areas.
Fact:
There is no nation-wide standard for a
security assessment for schools and campuses.
- We employ security assessment standards promulgated by
the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and Crime Prevention
Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
- We understand the budgetary
constraints for both the study of a campus and the implementation of action
plans.
- We understand the amount of
cooperation and coordination needed with first responders to be successful.
- We
provide a scalable "best for business" approach which eliminates cookie cutter
proposals.
Fact:
School campus security assessments are a critical component of an overall
security plan to determine physical security
needs for implementation of technology such as CCTV and Visitor control.
While this aspect is important, it should be recognized that the majority of school
homicides in the US since 1992 have been committed by students who already
were
in possession of a firearm inside the school or on the campus.
Physical security vendors should be guided from a vetted needs assessment
conducted by a security professional.
